Belleville West won the last time they faced Alton and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Maroons sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 win over the Redbirds. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Maroons as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

It was an exciting match in which no team won back-to-back sets, but at the end of the day Belleville West got the one that really mattered. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-20, 19-25, 25-20.

Belleville West can attribute much of their success to Mika Mariles, who had four digs and three aces. What's more, Mariles posted two assists, the most he's had over his last eight games.

Mariles wasn't the only good server: Belleville West was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 11 aces. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their ace total in three consecutive matches.

Belleville West's win bumped their record up to 7-11. As for Alton, they dropped their record down to 2-12 with the defeat, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season.

Belleville West didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 2-0 loss against Althoff Catholic on the 24th. As for Alton, they have also already played their next game, a 3-2 victory against Whitfield on the 23rd.
