Basketball Recap: Chardon Takes a Loss

Chardon lost against Mayfield back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Chardon Hilltoppers took a 74-67 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mayfield Wildcats. The Hilltoppers' loss continues a trend for the team, making it six in a row.

Mayfield got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Angelo Newman out in front who went 7 of 15 on his way to 23 points and five steals. Newman's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Andre Avery, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds.

Chardon's defeat dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Mayfield, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-8.

Chardon will face off against Berkshire at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday. Chardon is facing Berkshire at the right time seeing as Berkshire is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Mayfield, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Twinsburg at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Mayfield is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 63.7 points per game this season.
