St. Anselm's Abbey scored the most points they've had this season on Sunday, but it wasn't enough. They received a blow as they fell 84-68 to the Avalon Black Knights. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Saturday (65), the Panthers still had to take the loss.

St. Anselm's Abbey lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Alex McCuaig, who posted eight points and 11 rebounds. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in assists (three). Mario Camara Paslar was another key player, putting up 19 points and five boards.

Even though they lost, St. Anselm's Abbey smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Avalon was led to victory by Jordan Fox and Messiah Manning. Fox shot 69% from the field en route to 24 points and three steals, while Manning went 6-for-9 on his way to 17 points in addition to seven assists and five rebounds. Fox's big performance that evening made it 13 games in a row in which he has scored at least 16 points. Another player making a difference was Toran Ayana, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and 11 boards.

St. Anselm's Abbey's defeat dropped their record down to 19-11. As for Avalon, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-11 record this season.
