Volleyball Recap: Hammond Central Takes a Loss

After flying high against Gary West Side last Wednesday, Hammond Central came back down to earth. The Wolves came up short against the Marquette Catholic Blazers on Monday, falling 3-0. The Wolves' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

The match finished with set scores of 25-21, 25-16, 25-17.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Marquette Catholic to victory, but perhaps none more so than Olivia Zmuda, who had 21 digs and three assists. Zmuda is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had ten or more in each of the last 12 games she's played. Leighton Kurtich was another key player, getting nine aces.

Hammond Central's defeat dropped their record down to 12-10. As for Marquette Catholic, they pushed their record up to 18-7 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.

Hammond Central wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 3-0 win against East Chicago Central on the 30th. As for Marquette Catholic, they have also already played their next match, a 2-0 loss against Concord on the 4th.
