Softball Recap: Le Grand Beats Denair for Their Ninth Straight Victory

Le Grand entered their tilt with Denair on Friday with eight consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with nine. They were the clear victors by a 17-0 margin over the Coyotes. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 10-0 back in March.

Ava Avila was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Crystal Manzo and Aaliyah Ceja did most of the damage at the plate: Manzo went 3-for-4 with three doubles, two runs, and one stolen base, while Ceja scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. Ceja has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Nayalee Perez also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Le Grand hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Denair struck out ten times.

Le Grand's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-5. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Denair, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-8 record this season.

Le Grand will be playing in front of their home fans against Waterford at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Bulldogs are facing the Wildcats at the right time seeing as the Wildcats are stuck on an 11-game losing streak. As for Denair, they will head out to challenge Gustine at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
