Football Recap: Model Secondary School for the Deaf Comes Up Short

Model Secondary School for the Deaf extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 1-3. They had to suffer through a 32-0 loss at the hands of Coventry Christian. The Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Coventry Christian apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in September of 2024.

Even if they lost, Model Secondary School for the Deaf's defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. The team can thank two different players for their defensive prowess: Javon Johnson and Anakin Kuhns, who each picked up 1.5 sacks apiece.

As for Coventry Christian, the victory (which was their fifth in a row dating back to last season) raised their record to 3-0. Fans of they have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 20+ points.

Coventry Christian's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Luke Hunter, who picked up 35 receiving yards and one touchdown, and also punched in one TD on the ground. Hunter also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, making eight total tackles and defending two passes. Jomaree Moon was another key back, rushing for 35 yards and a pair of scores.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Model Secondary School for the Deaf will venture away from home to challenge Maryland School for the Deaf at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Eagles will need to watch out since the Orioles have now posted at least 31 points in their last four contests. As for Coventry Christian, they will head out to square off against Kennedy Catholic at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Coventry Christian will be up against Kennedy Catholic's rather soft defense (which has allowed 42.25 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
