Recap: Dover Pirates vs. Mayflower Eagles
It was a good run, but the Dover Pirates unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Friday. They suffered a rough 70-50 loss at the hands of Mayflower. The defeat was just more heartbreak for Dover who fell 61-59 when the teams previously met back in February of 2023.
Despite the loss, Dover still got an impressive performance from Logan Young, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds. Young hasn't dropped below 18 points for five straight games. Kenzie Mccrotty was another key contributor, scoring 18 points.
Dover's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 19-5. As for Mayflower, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Dover will take on Atkins at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Dover is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Atkins in Arkansas (Dover is ranked 29th, while Atkins is ranked 126th). As for Mayflower, they will head out on the road to square off against Lamar at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mayflower has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 516 points over their last eight matchups.
