Basketball Game Preview: Marlin Bulldogs vs. LaPoynor Flyers

The Marlin Bulldogs will face off against the LaPoynor Flyers on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Marlin comes in on four and LaPoynor on five.

Marlin is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. They came out on top against Mildred by a score of 40-32. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 442nd, while the Eagles are ranked 1229th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, LaPoynor beat Lovelady 57-47 on Tuesday.

LaPoynor pushed their record up to 23-11 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.3 points over those games. As for Marlin, their win bumped their record up to 17-7.

Marlin was able to grind out a solid victory over LaPoynor in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, winning 57-48. Does Marlin have another victory up their sleeve, or will LaPoynor turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
