Football Recap: Max Doherty Key Part of Team Effort in Trojans Win

Derry came into Friday's game having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They strolled past the Greensburg Salem Golden Lions with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 43-28. Considering the Trojans' offense had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Derry's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Max Doherty, who rushed for 122 yards and four TDs. Doherty is becoming a predictor of the Trojans' success: when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns the team is 2-1 (and 2-3 when he doesn't). Another receiver making a difference was Karsen Weiers, who picked up 142 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Derry was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 221 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Greensburg Salem only rushed for 94.

When it comes to explaining why Greensburg Salem lost, don't look at Brody Chismar. Despite the final result, he threw for 182 yards and one TD, and also rushed for 57 yards.

Derry's win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 4-4. As for Greensburg Salem, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-6.

Derry has already played their next matchup, a 33-13 victory against Mt. Pleasant on the 17th. As for Greensburg Salem, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 41-7 win against Yough on the 17th.
