Football Recap: La Grange Piles Up the Points Against Taylor

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask La Grange). They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat the Taylor Ducks 55-18. The Leopards haven't had any issues with the Ducks recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

La Grange got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Eli Gillum out in front who rushed for 98 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 80 yards and a pair of TDs on only six passes. Gillum's longest rush was for an impressive 50 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Dillan Johnson was another key player, rushing for 160 yards and two scores on only 11 carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: La Grange was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 368 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Eric Walker Ii and Johnny Guzman certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Walker Ii gained 96 total yards and a touchdown, while Guzman threw for 249 yards and one touchdown. Kavon Godwin also deserves some recognition as he punched in his first rushing touchdown of the season.

La Grange's win bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Taylor, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Coming up, La Grange will venture away from home to square off against Navasota at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Leopards will need to watch out since the Rattlers have now posted at least 31 points in their last three contests. As for Taylor, they will host Manor New Tech at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
