Baseball Game Preview: Appomattox County Raiders vs. Dan River Wildcats

Appomattox County has gone 8-1-1 against Dan River recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Raiders will be playing in front of their home fans against the Wildcats at 5:30 p.m. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive.

Appomattox County is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They never let Liberty get on the board and left with a 20-0 win on Monday. Considering the Raiders have won four matches by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Jack Wilkerson and Caid Burch made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Wilkerson tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Burch tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Wilkerson has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single walk in five consecutive appearances. At bat, Wilkerson got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run and one double, while Burch earned three runs and one stolen base. Those three runs gave Burch a new career-high.

In other batting news, Appomattox County got a massive performance out of R J Martin, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and four RBI. Those four RBI gave Martin a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Carwile, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs.

Appomattox County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .576. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Meanwhile, Dan River beat Gretna 6-1 on Monday.

Appomattox County pushed their record up to 8-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Dan River, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.
