Softball Recap: Jefferson Area Find Success

Jefferson Area's game on Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. They walked away with a 9-4 victory over the Berkshire Badgers. The Falcons have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Badgers, too.

Olivia Lewis spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up ten Ks.

On the hitting side, Allison Hill and Marillia Matuz did most of the damage at the plate: Hill went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Matuz went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most hits Hill has posted since back in April. Alaina Barress was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Jefferson Area kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matches.

The win got Jefferson Area back to even at 11-11. As for Berkshire, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-6.

Jefferson Area has already played their next game, a 4-3 victory against LaBrae on the 13th. As for Berkshire, they will head out to face off against Keystone at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Badgers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wildcats have averaged an impressive 8.4 runs per game this season.
