Basketball Game Preview: Plainfield East Bengals vs. Chicago Mt. Carmel Caravan

Plainfield East hasn't had much luck against Chicago Mt. Carmel recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. Both will face off at 10:30 a.m. without much rest having both just played.

Plainfield East is headed into Saturday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their tenth straight game on Friday. They lost 73-49 to Oswego East. The Bengals were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-22.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Chicago Mt. Carmel). They blew past Saint Ignatius College Prep 80-49 on Friday. The Caravan have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight contests by 21 points or more this season.

Chicago Mt. Carmel's win came from a few key players Plainfield East will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Cameron Thomas, who dropped a double-double on 32 points and 11 boards. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Grant Best, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds.

The victory (which was Chicago Mt. Carmel's fourth in a row) raised their record to 14-2. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 31 points. As for Plainfield East, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-12.

Plainfield East came up short against Chicago Mt. Carmel in their previous meeting back in December of 2019, falling 55-50. Can Plainfield East avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
