Volleyball Recap: Elkhart Comes Up Short

If Elkhart was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Goshen on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Lions took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Penn Kingsmen on Thursday. The Lions have struggled against the Kingsmen recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-23, 25-7, 22-25, 25-21.

Rylee Drummond paced Elkhart's offense, picking up 15 kills. Drummond got some help from Ava Polack and her 19 assists. Ava Walker controlled things from the service line, finishing with three aces.

Penn's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Abby Lane, who had 16 digs and two aces. That's the most aces Lane has posted over her last seven matchups. The team also got some help courtesy of Carson Petty, who had 21 assists and four digs.

Elkhart's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 19-8. As for Penn, their victory was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 20-6.

Elkhart didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 3-0 loss against Warsaw on the 4th. As for Penn, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 3-0 win against New Prairie on the 9th.
