Baseball Game Preview: Milton Academy Mustangs vs. Lawrence Academy Spartans

The Milton Academy Mustangs will face off against the Lawrence Academy Spartans at 3:45 p.m. on Saturday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

On Wednesday, Milton Academy came up short against Governor's Academy and fell 4-1. The game marked the Mustangs' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Meanwhile, Lawrence Academy faced Roxbury Latin in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Spartans came up short against the Foxes, falling 11-3. The Spartans' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Lawrence Academy got a good showing from John Paone, who struck out eight batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). Paone has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Lawrence Academy saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Charlie Beauregard, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases. Beauregard has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. Another was Laz Giardina, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Milton Academy now has a losing record of 4-5. As for Lawrence Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 6-4.
