Baseball Recap: Culver Community Comes Up Short

Culver Community had lost five straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 3-10 to make it six. They fell just short of the Triton Trojans by a score of 7-6. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Trojans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-3 on Saturday.

Hunter Albert was cooking despite his team's loss, going 4-for-5 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run.

As for Triton, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-6. Admittedly, the team didn't face the toughest opposition across those games, namely Culver Community, they, and Oregon-Davis.

On Triton's side, Levi McFarland made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave McFarland a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. He has become a key player for Triton: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 5-6 otherwise.

McFarland wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Braxton Kaufman, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Triton is 5-1 when Kaufman posts two or more runs, but 3-5 otherwise. Isaiah Vaca also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Looking ahead, Culver Community will square off against North Miami at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Triton, they will face off against Oregon-Davis at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Trojans are facing the Bobcats at the right time seeing as the Bobcats are stuck on a nine-game losing streak.
