Football Recap: Canutillo Eagles vs. Pebble Hills Spartans
Canutillo had to start their season on the road on Friday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They fell 21-12 to the Pebble Hills Spartans. While the Eagles had to settle for second, they closed the game well in the third quarter, where they outscored the Spartans 6-0.
Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ceasar Huerta, who threw for 223 yards and two TDs, and also rushed for 45 yards.
Pebble Hills' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Joe Fernandez led the charge by throwing for 190 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 13 passes, while also rushing for 53 yards. Those 190 passing yards gave Fernandez a new career-high. Oscar Hernandez helped out on the ground, rushing for 114 yards.
Looking ahead, Canutillo will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Montwood at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Pebble Hills, they will head out to take on Midland at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
