Football Recap: Canutillo Eagles vs. Pebble Hills Spartans
Canutillo had to start their season on the road on Friday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They took a 21-12 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pebble Hills Spartans. The Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Spartans apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in August of 2024.
Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ceasar Huerta, who threw for 223 yards and two touchdowns, and also rushed for 45 yards.
Pebble Hills' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Joe Fernandez, who threw for 190 yards and a pair of TDs on only 13 passes, and also rushed for 53 yards. Those 190 passing yards gave Fernandez a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Oscar Hernandez, who rushed for 114 yards.
Coming up, Canutillo will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Montwood at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Pebble Hills, they will head out on the road to challenge Midland at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
