Basketball Recap: Southwest Dekalb Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

Southwest DeKalb and McDonough squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Southwest DeKalb had to settle for second. They took a 78-70 hit to the loss column at the hands of the McDonough Warhawks. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Wednesday (60), the Panthers still had to take the loss.

Southwest DeKalb's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Thomas Glanton, III, who en route to 23 points, and Jackson Ushery, who to rack up 24 points. The dominant performance also gave Glanton, III a new career-high in field goal percentage (73%). Messiah Mergan was another key player, putting up six points.

Even though they lost, Southwest DeKalb smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Zion Greene continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for McDonough, almost dropping a double-double with 31 points and nine boards. Greene's big performance that afternoon made it seven games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Kerrington Moore, who on his way to 21 points and seven rebounds.

Southwest DeKalb's defeat dropped their record down to 26-4. As for McDonough, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-5 record this season.

Southwest DeKalb does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for McDonough, they will head out on the road to challenge Westminster at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Westminster knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 24 games -- so hopefully McDonough likes a good challenge.
