Basketball Preview: Arrupe Jesuit Generals vs. DSST: Montview Knights
Arrupe Jesuit is 0-10 against the Knights since February of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Arrupe Jesuit Generals will be playing in front of their home fans against the DSST: Montview Knights at 2:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Arrupe Jesuit was handed a 33-point loss in their previous outing, but they didn't let that bad energy affect their game against the Pirates on Thursday. Arrupe Jesuit narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Pirates 57-54. The victory was just what Arrupe Jesuit needed coming off of a 57-24 loss in their prior game.
Arrupe Jesuit got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Ari Cowans out in front who scored 28 points. That makes it six consecutive games in which Cowans has scored at least a third of Arrupe Jesuit's points. Xavier Martinez was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, DSST: Montview had already won 16 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25.7 points), and they went ahead and made it 17 on Tuesday. They blew past KIPP Denver Collegiate 74-25 at home. DSST: Montview has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 matches by 20 points or more this season.
Arrupe Jesuit's win bumped their record up to 5-9. As for DSST: Montview, they pushed their record up to 17-1 with that victory, which was their seventh straight at home.
Arrupe Jesuit was dealt a bruising 68-30 loss at the hands of the Knights in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. The matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Arrupe Jesuit was down 32-8.
