Softball Recap: First Colonial Comes Up Short

First Colonial was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 6-3 to the Cox Falcons. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Falcons this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-4 back in March.

Cori Evans spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits.

At the plate, Maura Haesler made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times she's played. Addison Foxwell was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

First Colonial's defeat dropped their record down to 8-8. As for Cox, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. First Colonial will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Bayside at 5:00 p.m. on the 21st. As for Cox, they will be playing at home against Great Bridge at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Falcons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wildcats have averaged an impressive 6.4 runs per game this season.
