Softball Recap: Braxton County Eagles vs. Ritchie County Rebels
Braxton County had lost 11 straight at home dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 0-20 to make it 12. They lost 26-0 to the Ritchie County Rebels. Having soared to a lofty 18 runs in the game before, the Eagles' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
As for Ritchie County, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 15-4-1. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
For Ritchie County's part, Rocklyn Marcum made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out ten batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Marcum has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with four stolen bases, four runs, and one double. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Ritchie County let Chelsie Jeffrey and Kila Frymier run wild. Jeffrey went a perfect 2-for-2 with two triples, three runs, and four RBI, while Frymier went a perfect 4-for-4 with seven RBI, two runs, and one double. Those triples were Jeffrey's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Lillian Monn, who went 3-for-4 with four runs, two RBI, and one double.
Looking ahead, Braxton County will head out to challenge Doddridge County at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 9.2 runs per game this season. Ritchie County does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
