Basketball Game Preview: Wausa Vikings vs. Cedar Catholic Trojans

Having just played yesterday, the Wausa Vikings will head out on the road to face off against the Cedar Catholic Trojans at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Wausa has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

Wausa is headed into the contest having just posted their closest win since December 7, 2024 on Monday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Osmond, sneaking past 49-46. The victory continues a trend for the Vikings in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won three in a row.

Taylor Dawson was a one-woman wrecking crew for Wausa as she went 6-for-14 on her way to 18 points and three steals. That makes it five consecutive games in which Dawson has scored at least a third of Wausa's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Barta, who posted 14 points.

Meanwhile, Cedar Catholic was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They took a hard 46-32 fall against Battle Creek. The Trojans were down 38-17 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Wausa will have to keep a close watch on Lauren Bernecker and Savannah Pick, a pair of players who had a big impact on Cedar Catholic's prior game. Bernecker scored five points and eight boards, while Pick put up nine points. The dominant performance gave Pick a new career-high in points.

Wausa's win bumped their record up to 11-13. As for Cedar Catholic, their loss dropped their record down to 12-11.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Wausa has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 30.1 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Cedar Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29.6 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.

Wausa was dealt a bruising 61-19 defeat at the hands of Cedar Catholic in their previous matchup back in February of 2022. Can Wausa avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
