Softball Recap: Lovington Finds Playoff Glory Versus Los Alamos

Lovington extended their postseason success on Saturday against Los Alamos. They had just enough and edged out the Hilltoppers 3-1. Winning may never get old, but the Wildcats sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

Sabrie Sanchez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up 14 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Zemarie Ellis, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.

Lovington hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in four consecutive games.

Lovington's victory bumped their record up to 20-8. As for Los Alamos, with the loss, they broke their 14-game winning streak and moved their record to 19-6-1.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Lovington will square off against Artesia at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season. As for Los Alamos, they will take on Belen at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday.
