Basketball Recap: Excel Christian Takes a Loss

Excel Christian played a tough match on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against the North Valleys Panthers, falling 74-21. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked 92nd, while the Panthers are ranked 19th).

Keegan Davis was Excel Christian's leading scorer, having posted seven points. Kaiden Noneo held things down on the boards with five rebounds.

Leading North Valleys to victory were Joshua Collins and Isaiah White. Collins went 10 of 16 on his way to 21 points and eight steals, while White went 8 of 14 on his way to 19 points and seven steals. Collins' evening made it eight games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyrone Washington, who posted six points along with six boards and three steals.

This is the second loss in a row for Excel Christian and nudges their season record down to 1-5. As for North Valleys, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-1.

Excel Christian will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Virginia City at 7:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025. Virginia City will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something Excel Christian surely won't give up without a fight. As for North Valleys, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, an 82-62 defeat against Churchill County on the 20th.
