Baseball Recap: Woodlawn-B.R. Comes Up Short

Woodlawn-B.R. was the 5-0 winner over Independence when they last played one another on Thursday, but their luck changed this time around. The Woodlawn-B.R. Panthers fell just short of the Independence Tigers by a score of 6-5 on Friday.

Klayton Tate and Cade Saurage stepped up to the plate in a big way. Tate scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Saurage scored a run while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance gave Tate a new career-high in runs. Ethan James also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Even though they lost, Woodlawn-B.R. hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in three consecutive games.

Woodlawn-B.R. has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season. Independence moved to 3-7 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

While Woodlawn-B.R. had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
