Football Recap: Fruita Monument Piles Up the Points Against Chaparral

After losing to Chaparral the last time they met, Fruita Monument decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Wildcats simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat the Wolverines 41-6. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wildcats.

Fruita Monument was led to victory by Cooper Rowell and Weston Sharpe. Rowell rushed for 56 yards and a pair of TDs, while Sharpe rushed for 91 yards and one score on only nine carries. The dominant performance also gave Rowell a new career-high in rushing touchdowns (two).

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Fruita Monument was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 203 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 165 rushing yards in four consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Fruita Monument didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Braylon Hoen and Brycen Crabb. Fruita Monument got some further help from Blake Bovee: he picked up two sacks and made four total tackles (2.5 for loss).

Fruita Monument now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Chaparral, they are on a ten-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Coming up, Fruita Monument is taking a road trip to take on Grand Junction at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Wildcats will need to watch out since the Tigers have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season. As for Chaparral, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Ponderosa at 7:00 p.m. on the 26th.
