Basketball Game Preview: Beech Grove Hornets vs. Southport Cardinals

The Beech Grove Hornets will square off against the Southport Cardinals at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.

Beech Grove is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing Indianapolis Arsenal Technical: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Beech Grove blew Indianapolis Arsenal Technical out of the water with a 70-10 final score. That looming 70-10 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Hornets yet this season.

Meanwhile, Southport made easy work of Whiteland on Thursday and carried off a 50-26 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cardinals.

Southport had a senior duo take command as Nola Linson went 11 of 15 en route to 25 points and four steals and Kassie Mcmasters posted 19 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Linson has scored all season.

Southport was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Whiteland only racked up six assists.

Beech Grove's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-9. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.7 points per game. As for Southport, their win bumped their record up to 10-7.

Everything went Beech Grove's way against Southport when the teams last played back in January of 2024, as Beech Grove made off with a 53-28 victory. Will Beech Grove repeat their success, or does Southport have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
