Football Recap: Terry Sanford Starts Season with Win Against Seventy-First + How To Watch

Terry Sanford took care of business in their home opener (barely) on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Seventy-First Falcons 46-44. This was payback for the Bulldogs, who suffered a 38-13 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Jacob Moore had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 135 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 8.4 yards per carry, and also threw for 193 yards and two touchdowns while completing 73.1% of his passes. That's the most passing yards he has posted since back in August of 2024. Another player making a difference was Isaiah Washington, who gained 104 total yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Terry Sanford was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 269 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 167 rushing yards in ten consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Seventy-First's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Jayson Franklin, who rushed for 211 yards and five TDs while picking up 12.4 yards per carry, and Shon Pone, who rushed for 163 yards and one touchdown on only 11 carries.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Terry Sanford will take on Pine Forest at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Seventy-First, they will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Cape Fear at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
