Basketball Game Preview: Boca Ciega Pirates vs. Oviedo Lions

The Boca Ciega Pirates will face off against the Oviedo Lions at 12:30 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Boca Ciega is headed into the matchup after thoroughly thrashing Bayshore: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Pirates blew the Bruins out of the water with a 62-22 final score. With the Pirates ahead 34-12 at the half, the game was all but over already.

Boca Ciega's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Keshawn Andrews, who shot 60% from the field en route to 19 points and six rebounds, and Anthony Brown, who went 7-for-16 on his way to 19 points and five boards. Brown is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last three games he's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Neven Vukovic, who posted ten points along with eight rebounds and three steals.

Boca Ciega smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in six consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Oviedo posted their closest win since January 2nd on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out Jones 40-37.

The victory got Oviedo back to even at 1-1. As for Boca Ciega, their win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-0.
