Baseball Recap: Rancho Comes Up Short

If Rancho was riding high fresh off their 11-3 takedown of Cimarron-Memorial on Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Rams fell just short of the Las Vegas Wildcats by a score of 1-0 on Saturday. The defeat continues a trend for the Rams in their meetings with the Wildcats: they've now lost four in a row.

Nolan Leppelmeier was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Rancho is 2-1 when Leppelmeier allows one or fewer earned runs, but 6-12 otherwise.

Rancho's loss dropped their record down to 8-13. As for Las Vegas, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-13-1 record this season.

Rancho will venture away from home to take on Eldorado at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Sundevils have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.67 runs per game on average), something the Rams will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Las Vegas, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Arbor View at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
