Basketball Recap: Genoa-Kingston Takes a Loss

Genoa-Kingston suffered their biggest defeat since November 29th on Friday. They lost 77-56 to the Warren Warriors. While losing is never fun, the Cogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 407th, while the Warriors are ranked 163rd).

Warren was led to victory by Treyton Pafford and Bryce VanRaalte. Pafford went 12 of 22 on his way to 27 points in addition to six boards and three steals, while VanRaalte dropped a double-double on 18 points and 13 rebounds. The dominant performance also gave VanRaalte a new career-high in assists (four). Another player making a difference was Beau Podnar, who posted 15 points.

Genoa-Kingston now has a losing record at 5-6. As for Warren, their record now sits at 9-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Genoa-Kingston will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Indian Creek at 7:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025. Warren will also get a bit of a break before their next game: they'll face off against Amboy at 1:00 p.m. on January 4, 2025.
