The Hereford Bulls will face off against the Dundalk Owls at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hereford is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11 runs per game this season.
The scorekeeper got an easy start on Tuesday as neither Hereford nor Western Tech & Environmental Science made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Bulls had just enough and edged out the Wolverines 4-3. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Bulls.
Lauren Clement was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Clement was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Alex Frank was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those triples marked the first that she has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Morgan Hall, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Hereford hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in seven consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Dundalk got the win against Patapsco on Tuesday by a conclusive 18-3. Considering the Owls have won five matches by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Hereford, Dundalk also got a great game from a two-way player: Julie Burger. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). Burger has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with four runs, three RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Makayla Woods was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Kenisha Gelpi was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Dundalk is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.7 runs over those games. As for Hereford, their win was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-1.
Both Hereford and Dundalk just can't seem to miss. The Bulls have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.8 hits per game. However, it's not like Dundalk struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Hereford came out on top in a nail-biter against Dundalk when the teams last played back in March, sneaking past 3-1. Do the Bulls have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Owls turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
