Softball Recap: Leander Snags Eighth Victory in Last Nine Games

Leander had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They had just enough and edged out the New Braunfels Unicorns 10-8. Ten seems to be a good number for the Lions as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Rachel Grundei was a standout: she went 2-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Avery Barnard was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Leander kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. They are a perfect 16-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Leander is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for New Braunfels, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 20-8 record.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Leander beat the Unicorns by a score of 3-2 on Friday.
