Basketball Recap: Christian Smith's Big Game Can't Quite Lead York over Rock Hill

It was a proper cat-fight when York duked it out withRock Hill on Thursday. The York Cougars came up short against the Rock Hill Bearcats, falling 75-49. The defeat continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Bearcats: they've now lost five in a row.

Several Cougars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Christian Smith, who posted eight points. The team also got some help courtesy of James Love, who had six points and 12 rebounds.

Rock Hill found their leader in sophomore Nigel Lightner, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 12 rebounds. Those 12 boards set a new season-high mark for Lightner. Another player making a difference was Deionne Robertson, who put up five points and three steals.

York's loss dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Rock Hill, their win bumped their record up to 3-4.

York didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 78-46 defeat against Clover on the 14th. As for Rock Hill, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 61-34 loss against South Pointe on the 13th.
