Basketball Game Preview: Gibbs Gladiators vs. Northeast Vikings

The Gibbs Gladiators will face off against the Northeast Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Gibbs has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

Gibbs is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They claimed a resounding 75-24 victory over Pinellas Park. The win was some much needed relief for the Gladiators as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.

Meanwhile, Northeast had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 42.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They walked away with a 50-37 victory over the Warriors.

Northeast found their leader in sophomore Jy'Aira Washington, who went 9 of 18 on her way to 25 points and seven rebounds. Washington's evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexa Chimner, who posted 11 points.

Northeast smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

Northeast has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-11 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.6 points per game. As for Gibbs, their win ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-11.

Everything came up roses for Gibbs against Northeast when the teams last played back in January of 2024, as the squad secured a 61-13 victory. In that game, Gibbs amassed a halftime lead of 52-3, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Wednesday.
