The Vincent Yellow Jackets will take on the Shelby County Wildcats in a tournament on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
Vincent will bounce into Friday's matchup after beating Montevallo, who they had gone 0-7 against in their seven prior meetings. Vincent's pitcher stepped up to hand Montevallo a 15-0 shutout on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Yellow Jackets, who have now won four contests by nine runs or more so far this season.
Vincent got a massive performance out of Ava Reese Waldrop, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Kylie Newton, who scored two runs while going 3-for-3.
Waldrop wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Vincent kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in five consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Shelby County put their dominant pitcher on display in the team's third consecutive shutout on Wednesday. They blew past Talladega 15-0.
Danslen Connell (2029) was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Connell (2029) was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Kloe Gallups (2026) was a standout: she scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Caitlan Bland (2026), who scored three runs while going 2-for-3.
Vincent's victory bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Shelby County, their win bumped their record up to 3-0.
Friday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Vincent has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .580. However, it's not like Shelby County struggles in that department as they've averaged .565. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Vincent came up short against Shelby County when the teams last played back in April of 2021, falling 4-0. Will Vincent have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
