Baseball Recap: Cathedral Takes a Loss

Cathedral suffered their closest defeat since February 19th on Saturday. They fell just short of the Bel Air Highlanders by a score of 5-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Highlanders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-3 back in February.

Cathedral got a good showing from Angel Vargas, who tossed four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits.

At the plate, Gabriel Ramirez was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those stolen bases were his first of the season.

Cathedral's loss dropped their record down to 5-3-2. As for Bel Air, their victory was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-4.

Coming up, Cathedral will welcome Chaparral at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lobos have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.22 runs per game on average), something the Fighting Irish will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Bel Air, they will square off against Hanks at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday. The contest will give the Highlanders their first taste of in-conference action this season.
