Baseball Recap: West Field Has No Trouble Against Logan

West Field was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Logan on Wednesday. The Longhorns were the clear victors by a 15-1 margin over the Grizzlies. That 14 run margin sets a new team best for the Longhorns this season.

Caymen Kap tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, West Field got a massive performance out of Brady Penland, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Penland is becoming a predictor of the Longhorns' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 6-1 (and 6-8 when he doesn't). Samuel Smith was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

West Field is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.2 runs over those games. As for Logan, they dropped their record down to 5-15 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

West Field will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Grizzlies: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
