Softball Recap: Monday's Victory Is Silverdale Academy's Eighth in Last Nine Outings

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Silverdale Academy ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They beat the Oakland Patriots by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 3-2. The Seahawks have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Patriots, too.

Airebis Cox spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up 14 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Silverdale Academy saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emry Masterson, who went 2-for-4 with one RBI. That's the most hits Masterson has posted since back in March.

Silverdale Academy has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-4-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Oakland, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 12-3-1.

Silverdale Academy and Oakland should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Tennessee Rankings. The Seahawks (ranked sixth) will meet Grace Baptist Academy (ranked 269th) at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in Silverdale Academy's favor as the team sits on 23 straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while the Golden Eagles have been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road. Meanwhile, Oakland will face off against Blackman at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank advantage (10 vs. 59).
