For the first time this season, Bullitt Central will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will square off against the Southern Trojans at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Bullitt Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.

Bullitt Central was handed a seven-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out Anderson County 5-3. The win was some much needed relief for the Cougars as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Mason Burton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on six hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Bullitt Central's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Logan Leber, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Jordan Powell was another, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Southern beat Kentucky Country Day 6-3 on Saturday.

The team relied heavily on Diego Vallejos Espinoza, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Richard Hernandez, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Southern is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Bullitt Central, their record now sits at 8-6.

Bullitt Central came out on top in a nail-biter against Southern when the teams last played back in May of 2024, sneaking past 8-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
