Softball Game Preview: Winter Park Wildcats vs. Horizon Hawks

The Winter Park Wildcats will head out on the road to take on the Horizon Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Winter Park has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with three straight defeats, while Horizon will come in with four straight wins.

Winter Park came up short against Winter Springs on Wednesday, falling 11-4.

Winter Park saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rylie Scanlon, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Reese Fleming also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, Horizon's rock-solid pitcher showed up for the team's fourth consecutive shutout on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by a 12-0 margin over Olympia. Considering the Hawks have won six contests by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Addison Lamb made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maryn Neely, who scored three runs and stole Three bases. while going 3-for-4. Lila Hernandez was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing Three bases. while going 1-for-4.

Horizon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.

Horizon pushed their record up to 9-1 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.0 runs on average over those games. As for Winter Park, their loss dropped their record down to 3-6.
