Baseball Game Preview: Mt. Mansfield Cougars vs. Burlington Seahorses

The Mt. Mansfield Cougars will challenge the Burlington Seahorses at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Mt. Mansfield has three straight wins, Burlington has nine straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Mt. Mansfield is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Vermont's top teams: Champlain Valley Union, who was ranked ninth at the time (Mt. Mansfield was ranked fifth). The Cougars had just enough and edged out the Redhawks 3-1.

Langdon Hazen spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up 11 Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

Meanwhile, Burlington lost 7-1 to South Burlington on Tuesday.

Mt. Mansfield's victory bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Burlington, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Everything went Mt. Mansfield's way against Burlington when the teams last played back in May of 2023, as Mt. Mansfield made off with an 8-0 win. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Seahorses turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
