Softball Game Preview: Churubusco Eagles vs. South Adams Starfires

Churubusco is 0-4 against South Adams since May of 2017 but things could change on Saturday. The Eagles will head out to square off against the Starfires at 10:00 a.m. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Churubusco sitting on six straight wins and South Adams on five.

Churubusco took a 13-run loss the last time they faced off against Central Noble, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Eagles won by a run and slipped past the Cougars 9-8. Surprisingly, this marked the Eagles' fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Churubusco's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Alyssa Marks, who went 3-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave Marks a new career-high.

Meanwhile, South Adams never let their opponents score on Friday. They were the clear victors by an 11-0 margin over Fort Wayne Snider. The result was nothing new for the Starfires, who have now won 14 matches by six runs or more so far this season.

The result came thanks to Shelby Weigel's shutout, as she gave up just four hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Bekah Patterson was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with five stolen bases and three runs. Mackenzie Neuenschwander was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Churubusco's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-7. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for South Adams, their record is now 19-4.

Churubusco couldn't quite finish off South Adams in their previous meeting back in May of 2023 and fell 13-11. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
