Pacific Grove extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping their season record down to 7-12 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-5 heartbreaker at the hands of the Stevenson Pirates. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Pirates this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-2 on Wednesday.
Nathaniel Wade put in work while hitting and pitching. He pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Wade wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Brody Edmonds, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. Another was Northrop Kirk, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
As for Stevenson, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games.
On Stevenson's side, Flint Dickson looked comfortable as he pitched 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Henry Blaxter, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Brady Mugan, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Pacific Grove didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 3-1 loss against Greenfield on the 7th. As for Stevenson, they have also already played their next contest, a 19-4 defeat against Carmel on the 3rd.
