Basketball Game Preview: Waelder Wildcats vs. St. Paul Cardinals

The Waelder Wildcats will venture away from home to take on the St. Paul Cardinals at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Waelder has given up an average of 56 points per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Waelder is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Schulenburg on Tuesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Wildcats took a blow against the Shorthorns, falling 74-37. The Wildcats were down 51-25 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Despite the defeat, Waelder saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Elijah Holloway posted 11 points in addition to six boards and three steals. Holloway is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least three every time he's taken the court this season.

Meanwhile, St. Paul was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss dating back to last season. They had to suffer through a 77-47 loss at the hands of Goliad. The Cardinals were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 38-18.

Waelder now has a losing record of 2-3. As for St. Paul, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.

Waelder couldn't quite get it done against St. Paul when the teams last played back in December of 2016 as they fell 49-42. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
