Basketball Recap: Holmes Comes Up Short

If Holmes was feeling good fresh off their 75-39 takedown of Bear Grass Charter on Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Aces took a 55-51 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pasquotank County Panthers on Thursday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Aces of the 63-58 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January.

Pasquotank County was led to victory by Branden Smith and Trey Barnes. Smith went 8-for-17 to rack up 24 points and five rebounds, while Barnes dropped a double-double with 12 points and 20 boards. Smith's evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Datravion Simpson, who posted ten points and four steals.

Holmes' defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Pasquotank County, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 5-0.

Coming up, Pasquotank County won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against KIPP P at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Holmes will be paying especially close attention to the Panthers' contest: after the Panthers face off against Greater Destiny Prep Academy, they'll take on Holmes again at 7:30 p.m. on January 2, 2026.
