Softball Recap: Las Cruces Falls Short Against Ranked Alamogordo

Las Cruces faced Alamogordo in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Bulldawgs fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 11-9. Surprisingly, this marked the Bulldawgs' third straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Zaysha Hawkins was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Adriana Pena was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run and one double.

Las Cruces dropped their record down to 16-6 with the loss, which was their third straight at home. As for Alamogordo, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-9 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Las Cruces will head out to take on Centennial at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Hawks will roll in looking for their 23rd straight victory, something the Bulldawgs surely won't give up without a fight. As for Alamogordo, they will take on Gadsden at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Tigers are facing the Panthers at the right time seeing as the Panthers are stuck on a 12-game losing streak.
