Softball Game Preview: Columbus East Olympians vs. Bloomington South Panthers

The Columbus East Olympians will face off against the Bloomington South Panthers at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Neither Columbus East nor Bloomington South posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Tuesday just wasn't the day for Columbus East's offense. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Indian Creek on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Bloomington South challenged North Daviess on Thursday. The Panthers fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 3-2. The Panthers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Bloomington South got a good showing from Rachel Johnson, who tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Johnson has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Bloomington South saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Larkyn Ivey, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double. Evie Carpenter was another, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Columbus East has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-15 record this season. As for Bloomington South, their loss dropped their record down to 10-5.

Columbus East was able to grind out a solid win over Bloomington South in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, winning 7-4. Will the Olympians repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
