Football Recap: Victoria East Takes a Loss

Victoria East extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to five on Friday, dropping them down to 0-3. They had to suffer through a 36-0 loss at the hands of the Gregory-Portland Wildcats. While losing is never fun, the Titans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 520th, while the Wildcats are ranked 239th).

Even if they lost, Victoria East's defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. In that department, Kahliel Prater was the leader with two.

As for Gregory-Portland, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-0. Fans of they have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 20+ points.

Cody Adame went supernova, rushing for 120 yards and two TDs on only nine carries. His longest rush was for an impressive 51 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Carter Dominguez was another key player, punching in two rushing scores.

Looking ahead, Victoria East will take on Seguin at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Titans will need to watch out since the Matadors have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season. As for Gregory-Portland, they will face off against Sinton at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Wildcats will need to watch out since the Pirates have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.
